Follow this step-by-step tutorial to add alt text to your WordPress images.
Installing the Plugin
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard
- Navigate to Plugins > Add Plugin
- Search for "Alt Text Generator AI"
- Click "Install Now" on our plugin
- After installation completes, click "Activate"
Setting Up Your API Key
- Create an account on AltTextGeneratorAI.com
- Go to your dashboard and copy your API key
- Return to your WordPress dashboard
- Navigate to AltTextGenerator > Settings in the sidebar
- Paste your API key, set website and language in the designated fields
- Click Save Settings
⚠️Your API key is unique to your account.
💡You can also check the other boxes in Settings to generate the image title, caption and description from the alt text.
Generate Alt Text (Manually)
- Navigate to Media > Library
- Click on any of your images
- Click on the Generate Alt Text button below the Alternative Text field
- Done! Alt text will be generated automatically.
Generate Alt Text (Automatic)
- Navigate to Media > Library > Add Media File
- Upload as many images as you would like
- Once images are uploaded, alt text will be generated automatically for them
- Not generating? Make sure Automatically generate alt text when uploading images is checked in AltTextGenerator > Settings
Generate Alt Text (Bulk Feature)
- Click on AltTextGenerator > Bulk Alt Text
- Pick a tab: Images with Empty Alt, Images with Short Alt or All Images
- Select the images you want, or tick the top checkbox to select them all
- Click Generate for selected, or Generate for all to process every image in the tab
- You can also click Generate alt text on a single row
- Review the alt text right in the table, or click Edit to open the image in the Media Library
